Re: Building a PC - xnskzzxnvs - 11-05-2012 i have 8 gig of ram, wow is in 64 bit mode, and i don't think i remember ever seeing it use more than 1.5. i have no idea if that is still a limitation of wow or why it can't cache bazillion things in ram. but really i use a shit phenom 1 x4 (not a phenom ii) on a shit 4850 so i don't have high expectations Re: Building a PC - jackslammer - 11-05-2012 Here's a good deal on a GPU: EVGA 03G-P4-3661-KR GeForce GTX 660 Ti 3GB 192-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card $329.99 - $10.00IR - $32.00 promo code "HARDOCP1X31A" (10%) - $20.00IR = $267.99 with free shipping Promo Expires on 11/6/12 Re: Building a PC - ragelol - 11-05-2012 abecx Wrote:Firecrest Wrote:Cool. That makes sense. Getting like a 128GB SSD and a 500GB HDD is not too expensive. I should be able to do that and still get at least a 660 video card like Jack said (awesome chart btw - very helpful).Thats so freaking small, I mean I have 6.9TB of storage and thats 64% used. I agree on the less than 1TB, but I'd say realistically most people won't use more than what he said. WTF are you saving though, I couldn't dream of filling up that much storage and I'm lazy and save everything? Re: Building a PC - xnskzzxnvs - 11-05-2012 all those pics of miia and lindsay lohan Re: Building a PC - abecx - 11-05-2012 ragelol Wrote:Most of it is TV shows. I have a ton of stuff that i watch for background and the more I watch it the better background noise it is. Plus its how I learn. Sounds GPU related Re: Building a PC - Firecrest - 11-05-2012 The only movies I keep on my computer are ones I’ve torrented but not yet watched. That’s like a whole 3-4 movies and maybe a season or two of whatever TV show I’m catching up on. I stream the vast majority of my media and if I have to download it, I delete it as soon as I’ve watched it. I got the 1 TB HDD I have now about 5 years ago and I’ve never done any serious cleaning of it and (iirc – at work) I’m only using about 700 GB. I might just get a TB on the HDD since storage is so cheap, but I really can’t see myself using more than that. If I ever do though, I can add storage pretty easy. Re: Building a PC - Firecrest - 11-05-2012 ragelol Wrote:You won't blow half your budget on a SSD. The newest generation is right around the corner, and there have been pretty solid reductions on the current top tier. You get a solid 128G for about 70-80 after rebates if you're patient and I wouldn't be surprised to see them go lower than that on Black Friday/Cyber Monday.I guess I should have realized that the reason why most SSDs were so small was because people were using them in the way you guys suggested. I assumed I was going to need to shell out for a 400-600 GB SSD and those things are like a buck a GB. I was really not understanding why so many of them were in the <128GB range. It makes a lot more sense now. That said, I'm kind of excited about the SSD now. Load times aren't a huge deal, but if I can speed it up, it will be nice. I've been playing BL2 with my brother lately and that game zones you both at the same time in co-op. Every time we do, I watch the loading screen for a bit and when I'm finally done, my brother is already nearly out of sight. And don't even get me started on WoW post-Wrath. You know, now that I'm sitting here thinking about it... I spend a lot of time staring at loading screens... Re: Building a PC - abecx - 11-05-2012 CZD lets add some loading screens to the website |
